Lee Friend Homepage
Lee Friend is an technology professional who lives in London, UK, with his wife Teresa Ling. His primary work has been working in IT departments with job titles such as IT Administrator, and Web Developer. Lee is of English and Welsh background.
I have been using the Internet and Web since 1994 when I was studying on a BSc Computer Science degree course at the University of East London (UEL) in Barking and Stratford, UK.
Going back, I started using technology at an early age by going on family visits to the coast and playing Arcade games. Also the same time playing on video game handheld systems. In the early 1980's our family got an Atari 2600, my first real computer games machine. In 1984 I received a Sinclair ZX Spectrum where I learned to programming in BASIC plus I played a lot of video games on it. A few years later, Amstrad took over Sinclair and so I got a Sinclair ZX Spectrum 128+2. Around 1989 I received a Commodore Amiga 500, followed later in the early 1990's I bought myself a PC, an Olivetti 386sx-16mhz. I went to Docklands ITEC and studied BASIC and COBOL programming, up until mid 1992, where I then went to college. In 1994, I went to UEL to further my education, and they hosted my first website on their computer systems.
The early days of home computing, the Internet, and Web, were big factors for me in deciding to work professionally in technology. My first IT job was as a Junior IT Administrator, back in the Summer of 1996, administrating Windows NT, UNIX and Novell servers. My work later lead me to mainly using and supporting Microsoft's software. In 2000 I started working as a professional Web/Software Developer, up until 2015 when I reverted back to IT Support roles.
My early IT job experiences, I was working in various industries such as Investment Banking, Insurance, and Media. Recently, the IT jobs I have worked in have been with Non-profits.
Apart from technology, my interests include music, food, travel, walks, wildlife, skiing and watching football.
My wife Teresa Ling and I first met at UEL in 1995, and later in 1998 we got married in Hackney Town Hall. Teresa is a Business Analyst.
Today, I work on and off in IT temporary roles, plus I do volunteer sometimes to help communities, in London.
